The Process:  Bringing a CAD Design into Reality

In June of 2009 we were contacted by Steeda Autosports to develop a new hood for their 2010 Mustang. The goal of the design was to develop a hood that would keep the new Steeda Q  cool under the brutal conditions of racing. Using a fluid dynamics supercomputer, the design was flow tested and proven to flow more air than the 2010 Shelby GT500.

Working directly with Ford Executive Bob Adams, we were able to produce a hood that met all of their design criteria... and then some. Utilizing our proprietary composite technology, we were able to create a structure that is extremely rigid and strong with clearance for the new FRPP blower and strut tower brace. In all, it weighed in at an amazing 10% lighter than stock.

All of the strength, fit, and clearance properties were designed into the underside of the hood.

From the CAD file, we produced this prototype of the outer skin.

Steeda provided this top secret CAD file for use in development.

The Prototype was tested for fitment and engine clearance.

Molds were made and the first early production pieces were produced.

The finished product... under the bright lights of the Ford  display at SEMA.
